Anthem College Open House Career Fair Set for September 23

AURORA, COL., Sept. 8, 2009 -- Anthem College will celebrate National Surgical Technology week with an Open House and Career Fair Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 2-6 p.m. at it's campus, located at 350 Blackhawk Street in Aurora.

The Open House for Surgical Technology will feature booth displays of surgical equipment and products, sponsored by medical representatives as well as booths sponsored by the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA) and the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). Medical representatives will also conduct giveaways for those in attendance with food being provided by the Macaroni Grill.

Employment of surgical technologists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Job Outlook Handbook. In fact, Employment of surgical technologists is expected to grow 24 percent between 2006 and 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations, as the volume of surgeries increases.

Hospitals will continue to be the primary employer of surgical technologists, although much faster employment growth is expected in offices of physicians and in outpatient care centers, including ambulatory surgical centers, the Handbook noted.

Students from the Surgical Technology program will also be on hand to answer questions from prospective students in attendance.

At the same time, a Career Fair will take place at the same location for all Anthem College academic programs, including Surgical Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, and Massage Therapy.

The Career Fair will feature employers that typically hire Anthem College graduates setting up booths to interview and meet with current students, alumni and prospective students. The career fair attracts local hospitals and clinics and the following employers are expected to attend: Ajilon Professional Staffing, Hospital Shared Services, DaVita, Hand & Stone Massage, Interim Healthcare, Massage Envy, Securitas, Total Long-Term Care, Kelley Services, Denver Health and University Hospital.

There will also be a resource section of the career fair that targets current and prospective student needs by providing information on life skill resources, such as transportation, daycare, budgeting and housing. County Workforce Centers will be on hand to assist unemployed students and prospective students gain employment while temp agencies and other employers attend to attract graduates who are qualified to work in the healthcare field and current students/prospective students looking for part-time employment while attending school.

“We are seeking students who are interested in getting on the fast track to a new and rewarding career in healthcare programs,” said Erin Henry, President of Anthem College in Aurora, Col. “Our career fair gives both current students and those preparing to begin their education a chance to interact with employers in the field”
